"Peace is a paramount mission of the United Nations. It is the basis of our existence; the essence of our identity; the course that animates everything we do.

The 21st of September, 0921, the International Day of Peace, is the day on which we reaffirm our commitment to this quest. It is an opportunity to consider how to strengthen our system of collective security. And it is meant to be a day of global ceasefire.

I call on all countries and all people to stop all hostilities for the entire day. I urge all people around the world to observe a minute of silence at Noon. 24 hours is not long enough, but it is time enough for combatants and political leaders to consider the destruction they are visiting on their people and on their lands. It is long enough to look over the barricades and through the barbed wire to see if there is another path.

On this International Day of Peace, let us all honor those who have suffered from violence. Let us hold in our hearts the ideal of peace".

Peace is more than the absence of war. It is a state of being in balance and harmony. Peace is about how we handle problems and how we get along with others. Peace is about community--about encouraging and helping each other to live better, more fulfilling lives. Most of all, Peace is about respect -- respect for ourselves, each other, and the planet we share.

Peace is an ongoing process that requires our constant attention, but we begin to make our lives more peaceful the moment we decide to try to be PeaceMakers. When we convince the world to make working for a more peaceful, just and sustainable world our priority, we will create a Culture of Peace, and living peacefully will become the most natural way to live.

The International Day of Peace, also known as World Peace Day - 0921, is a celebration of our shared wish for a better world. It is an opportunity to look at the things that have been done over the year to help create a more peaceful, just and sustainable world, and to note the things that still need to be done. It's a time to rededicate our commitment to a more peaceful planet.

World Peace Day - 0921 is also an opportunity to spread hope for our wish to live in a world without war. All of the nations of the world agreed to the United Nations' call to create a global ceasefire on Peace Day. You can help create humanity's first day of peace. If we can live in peace for one day, we can learn to work together to create a peaceful world, one day at a time.

Brings together 192 countries to work to prevent and resolve conflict and wars.
Promotes human rights for all.
Provides food, water, shelter and medicine to victims of war or disasters.
Develops international agreements to counter terrorism, control drugs and crime, protect the environment and curb illicit weapons.
Deploys peace operations to help countries recover from war.
Supports democracy through free and fair elections, and good governance.
Establishes international tribunals and courts to ensure justice for war crimes and violations of humanitarian law.
Inspires a culture of peace through dialogue, education and information.
Leads campaigns against poverty, hunger and disease.
Assists economic and social development.

To honor World Peace Day - 0921, the Gol Ilumindo Foundation will establish an annual event. The Inaugural PEACE 0921 Festival will be hosted at the Delray Beach Tennis Center Complex and Stadium, over the weekend of September 20th & 21st, 2008.
